Friday Newsletter – May 2, 2025
Dear Families,
It is hard to believe that we are in the month of May! The next two months are filled with exciting learning experiences and opportunities for our students.
One of these exciting experiences was watching the local dance school, Revolution Dance Collective, perform this morning. The talented dancers showcased a variety of styles, and our students were engaged by the energy, creativity, and artistry of the performance. It was a fantastic experience that brought the joy of the arts right to our school. It was wonderful to see so many of our John Muir students part of the dance collective.

New Kindergarten Orientation:
On May 20, we will be welcoming our New Kindergarten students to John Muir for our Kindergarten Orientation. Families and children will meet our K team, have a play on our playground, and participate in a variety of Kindergarten activities. We look forward to welcoming our new K’s to John Muir!
Class Placement Requests for 2024/25:
In June, staff will begin the class placement process for next school year.  If you have a specific request, please email Mrs. DeLeenheer (tdeleenheer@sd62.bc.ca by May 31, 2025.  Please do not request a specific teacher. Instead, we ask that you describe the type of teaching style that you believe would best suit your child(ren).  Note that requests will be taken into consideration, however, there are no guarantees that they will be accommodated. Please send these requests in writing only.
Pick Up/Drop Off:
Just some gentle reminders to families/caregivers about pick up and drop off:
  • Please be mindful of the posted speed limits during school hours and when driving through the parking lots please be mindful of students, staff, and parents walking.
  • Please park in the designated parking spaces in the lower parking lot. Staff parking is for staff only.
  • Please stop for children and adults in our crosswalk.
  • Please be patient and courteous – pick up and drop off are busy times and our goal is to ensure a safe and smooth experience.
Garden Plant Sale & Fundraiser
Please join us in the garden on
 Thursday, May 8th from 2pm to 4pm
 Friday, May 9th from 2pm to 4pm
 Saturday, May 10 from 10am to 12
Students, staff and parent volunteers have grown a beautiful variety of tomatoes, peppers, vegetable greens, herbs and flowers to raise funds in support of our little garden.
Also, we are celebrating the addition of a wonderful new greenhouse. Please come and see the new garden addition, which happened only due to the generous support of the Sooke Rotary Club!
Come see what is growing and enjoy some fun at the craft table, cold refreshments of lemonade or iced tea. Listen to music, play some garden games and share some gardens tips with our community of students, friends & their families!
