Dear Families,
Regular school attendance plays a vital role in student learning, well-being and connection to our school community. When students are present consistently, they are better able to build routines, develop friendships, and fully engage in their learning. Missing school on a regular basis makes it challenging for students to keep up academically and socially. We recognize that families may face circumstances that impact attendance. If your child is experiencing challenges that make attending school difficult, we encourage you to reach out to the school – we are here to collaborate and provide support whenever possible.
Dressing for the Weather
At John Muir, students go outside in all kinds of weather. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the conditions. We also recommend sending along a couple of extra changes of clothes in case they are needed. Thanks for your support!
End of Day Pick Up
Just a reminder to families that there is no supervision on the playground at the end of day. Supervising you child at the end of the day is so important in order to help your children navigate social interactions as needed. Thanks for your support.
Late French Immersion
Late French Immersion is a program where students enter in Grade 6 and learn to become fluent in French. By Grade 8, they are at the same fluency level as Early French Immersion students (who enter the program in Kindergarten or Grade 1). If you have a child entering Grade 6 in September 2026 and is interested in joining the French Immersion program, there is an information session at Journey Middle School on January 22nd at 6:30pm. Please see attachment for more information.
Grade 4 Student Learning Survey
Today, parents of Grade 4 students received the information about the Grade 4 Student Learning Survey. The survey will be administered at school for Grade 4 students. Parents, guardians and caregivers of Grade 4 students are also encouraged to participate in the survey as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement. The survey contains standard questions for the Province – in addition, questions from the school and/or district that focus on local conditions or issues may be included.
The survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed using the link below until May 1, 2026.
