Literacy Week is just around the corner! We are excited to celebrate the joy of reading, writing, and storytelling throughout the week with a variety of engaging activities for our students. Literacy Week is a wonderful opportunity to foster a love of books, strengthen language skills, and highlight the important role literacy plays in learning and everyday life. We look forward to a fun and meaningful week of learning for all!

Parenting ADHD Children – A Neuro-Affirming Approach
Join FamilySmart and Mary Klovance live online for an evening to learn neurodiversity-affirming communication strategies to reduce power struggles and strengthen connection. Parents will leave with tools they can use immediately, greater compassion for their child’s nervous system, and a clearer roadmap for supporting their child.
Time & Date: Wednesday February 18th, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm (On-line)
 
Food Market
Spencer Middle School along with Flourish Food is hosting a free food market every second Friday beginning January 30 from 2:30pm – 4:00pm. The market days are Jan. 30, Feb. 27, Mar. 13, Apr. 10, Apr. 24, May 8, May 22, June 5, and June 19. Spencer Middle School is located at 1026 Goldstream Ave, and the market will be located near the picnic tables. 
 
Grade 4 Student Learning Survey
Students in Grade 4 will be participating in a learning survey. The survey will be administered at school for Grade 4 students. Parents, guardians and caregivers of Grade 4 students are also encouraged to participate in the survey as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement. The survey contains standard questions for the province – in addition, questions from the school and/or district that focus on local conditions or issues may be included.
The survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed using the link below until May 1, 2026.

The e-survey site will be open until May 1, 2026. 
 
Great Big Buddy Read
The Great Big Buddy Read returns on Thursday, January 29, 2026, as part of Family Literacy Week. This province wide celebration encourages children in kindergarten through grade five to read with a buddy and experience the joy of sharing stories together. Buddies can include older students, classmates, teachers, librarians, family members or any caring adult. Anyone is welcome to take part in the reading event, including classrooms, schools, libraries, and families across Canada. Prize Draw Eligibility for Southern Vancouver Island Only.
