Friday Newsletter – April 17, 2026
Dear Families,
It was wonderful to see so many families at our Celebration of Learning. Over the past week, classes have dedicated significant time to preparing for this event, and students were excited to share the meaningful learning taking place at John Muir. We truly value the strong partnership we share with our families and appreciate your ongoing support in your child’s learning journey.
From the Library
Hello Jaguar Families,
Thank-you so much for your continued support with the book fair! To the volunteers, a huge thank-you because you made this bookfair possible by helping me out! Our library will be able to purchase some new books due to your support!
Happy reading,

Grade 4 Student Learning Survey
The Provincial Student Learning Survey is unique in its scope, size and usefulness to schools. It gathers information from parents/guardians/caregivers, teachers, and students on topics related to school environment, safety, and achievement. The information is used for planning in individual schools and provides a district and provincial perspective.
Early in 2026 the Student Learning Survey will be administered to students in grade 4, their parents/guardians/caregivers, and all school staff. We encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to participate in this survey, as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement. The surveys contain standard questions for the Province – in addition, questions from the school and/or district that focus on local conditions or issues may be included.
The survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed on the Internet at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/student-learning-survey. Any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection can be used, and access to the e-survey is simple and secure. The survey can be accessed through the link and by clicking on Take the Survey. On the login page, click on the Parents icon, and then select the school district and school name where your child attends school. Provincial, District and School Reports for previous years can be viewed at the same site under the Results section.
The e-survey site will be open until May 1, 2026.
If you have any questions, please contact the school at 250-642-5427.
Attendance
Consistent attendance is essential for student learning and well-being. When students miss school, they miss important instruction, classroom discussions, and opportunities to connect with peers. Even occasional absences can add up over time and impact progress. We encourage families to support regular attendance and to reach out if there are barriers we can help address. Thank you so much for your support.

Parents Night Out Survey
Our Parent Night Out survey showed moderate interest in attending the event, with about one-third of respondents saying yes and another one-third indicating maybe. However, there was very limited interest in helping plan it. As this type of event requires significant organization—especially with limited time remaining in the school year—we will need to table it for now.
We hope to revisit this next school year and would welcome the formation of a small committee to help bring this event to life.
Enjoy your weekend!
