Friday Newsletter – June 5, 2026
 
Dear Families,
We are excited to invite families to our Parent Appreciation on Friday, June 12. Please join staff on the hockey court at 8:00am for coffee, treats, and an opportunity to connect with one another. This special gathering is our way of expressing our gratitude for the ongoing support, encouragement, and partnership that our families provide throughout the year. We look forward to celebrating our wonderful school community with you!
 
Rainbow Parade
We’re excited to share that our schools will be holding a Rainbow Parade on Wednesday, June 10th. We will all assemble at Poirier Elementary School and parade to Journey Middle School. Our whole school will gather at Journey for a short celebration and end with singing ‘True Colors’ together.
This event is a celebration of kindness, inclusion, and the joy of being yourself. It helps students learn about and appreciate diversity, stand against racism and discrimination, and create a school and community where everyone feels that they belong. This supports specific curricular outcomes related to personal and social responsibility, empathy, and understanding the diverse communities in which we live. Thank you for supporting a community where all children and families are valued and respected. Families are invited to be part of the parade by cheering on our students. Permission slips went home on Thursday and need to be returned to classroom teachers by Monday, June 8th.
 
Soccer Jamboree
On Thursday, permission slips went home to Grade 3,4, and 5 students for the Soccer Jamboree happening on June 10. The Soccer Jamboree includes all four elementary schools and will be held at Milne’s Landing Soccer Fields. Students that are interested will need to meet at the soccer fields between 3:00pm and 3:15pm. Please see permission form for more details.

Summer Food Markets
Please see the attached flyer for the upcoming summer food markets hosted by Flourish. All items are free.
Harmony Project Sooke Year-End Concert 

We are so excited to invite you to our upcoming Harmony Project Sooke Year-End Concert on Tuesday, June 9th over at the Journey Middle School gym!

Both of our groups—Strings and Drumline—have been working their hearts out to prepare a fantastic, high-energy program. It is going to be an awesome night showcasing a wonderful mix of musical talent and rhythm.

We would absolutely love to see you there. Please feel free to bring along your family, friends, neighbors, or anyone else who might enjoy a great show!

PAC Meeting(s):
If you would like to join our school PAC for the 2026/27 school year come to our AGM June 8 @ 6:00pm in the school library, and put your nomination in! If you would like to join us virtually click here.
We are currently looking to amend our Constitution and Bylaws. Please have a read (click here) and let me know if you have any questions or would like a paper copy of this document please message me at pac.johnmuir@gmail.com. 
Voting on the changes will take place at our AGM on July 8.
