Friday Newsletter – May 8, 2026
Dear Families,
We had an amazing turn out for our Read and Ride Event for Kindergarten students starting this September.
Our future students sat on a school bus and listened to Ms. Hepting read the story, “Don’t Let the Pigeon Ride the Bus!” After the story, they sang “Wheels on the Bus” and went for a ride around the neighbourhood.
The students finished off the day with a play in the gym and took a book home to read. A big thanks to Ms. Hepting, Ms. Reade, and Ms. Sharon for running the event.
New Kindergarten Orientation:
On May 25, we will be welcoming new Kindergarten students to John Muir for our Kindergarten Orientation. Families and children will meet our K team, have a play on our playground, and participate in a variety of Kindergarten activities.
Licorice Fundraiser
Division 2 is doing a licorice fundraiser on Tuesday, May 12th. Students can purchase 3 pieces of licorice for $1.00.
John Muir Presents: The Jaguar’s Talent Show!
On May 20th we will have an in-school talent show. This event will be a celebration of creativity, courage, and community! Students will take the stage to share their special talents with their school mates—whether it’s singing, dancing, comedy, magic, musical instruments, or something wonderfully unique.
Does your child have a talent that is not easily shared on a stage? This year we are also accepting video submissions so that we can include as many diverse talents as possible! For example: trampoline tricks, scoring a goal (hockey, soccer), horseback riding etc.
Video submissions must be 1 minute or less in length and emailed directly to Ms. Gray: sgray@sd62.bc.ca by Friday May 15th to be considered for entry.
Next week students will be asked to perform their talent for a small group of teachers. This will give students the opportunity to test out their talent in front of a small audience.
Please help your student feel successful with this opportunity by having them practice their talent at home.
