Friday Newsletter – May 22
Dear Families,
On Wednesday, we were treated to an incredible display of talent during our school Talent Show. Our students sang, danced, performed skits, told jokes and shared artwork – each performance a true testament to their creativity and confidence. Thank you to all the families who came out to support their children and cheer them on. A heartfelt thank you goes to Ms. Gray for her leadership in organizing this event and to Ms. Wu for her technical support in making everything run smoothly.
We also took time this week to recognize the vital role of our SD 62 bus drivers, who safely transport student across the district each day. Our Kindergarten/Grade 1 class created a special banner to greet the drivers as they arrived today, and we proudly presented the drivers with certificates and chocolates as a small token of our appreciation.
Attendance:
As we approach the final stretch of the school year, we want to thank you for your continued support and partnership. It’s been a wonderful journey watching out students grow, learn and achieve so much together. With 5 weeks left in the school year, we kindly ask for your help in encouraging consistent attendance and timely arrivals each day. These last weeks are so important, not only for wrapping up academic progress, but also for celebrating accomplishments, participating in meaningful activities, and preparing for a strong start next year.
Rainbow Parade
We’re excited to share that our schools will be holding a Rainbow Parade on Wednesday, June 10th. We will all assemble at Poirier Elementary School and parade to Journey Middle School. We will gather at Journey for a short celebration and end with singing ‘True Colors’ together.
This event is a celebration of kindness, inclusion, and the joy of being yourself. It helps students learn about and appreciate diversity, stand against racism and discrimination, and create a school and community where everyone feels that they belong. This supports specific curricular outcomes related to personal and social responsibility, empathy, and understanding the diverse communities in which we live. Thank you for supporting a community where all children and families are valued and respected. Families are invited to be part of the parade by cheering on our students. More details about the day to follow next week.
From the Library
We are noticing an increase in library books being returned with damage such as spilled liquids, bent pages, and damaged covers. Please remind your child to use their book bag when transporting library books to and from school to help keep them protected.
We also kindly ask families to take a little extra time to look for missing books before sending in payment. Often, books turn up at home, in backpacks, or in vehicles. Searching first helps reduce extra paperwork for both the office and library staff. Thank you for your support in helping us care for our library books!
