Friday Newsletter – June 12

Dear Families,
One of the highlights of this week was the Rainbow Parade, a meaningful event that brought together schools from across our community to celebrate kindness, belonging, and inclusion. It was inspiring to see students of all ages come together through dance, band, choir, and spoken presentations, sharing messages of respect, acceptance, and community. The event provided an opportunity for students to recognize that every person deserves to feel valued, welcomed, and connected. Most importantly, it was a celebration of the caring and compassionate community we strive to create – one where everyone has a place, everyone belongs, and kindness guides our actions. Thank you to staff, students, and families for being part of this event.

Parent Appreciation
It was such a pleasure to welcome families at our Parent Appreciation event this morning. Thank you for taking time out to stop by, enjoy a coffee and treat, and connect with us – it truly means a lot.

Fun Day
Our students had a fantastic time at Fun Day. Each activity was filled with laughter and excitement as classmates cheered one another on and enjoyed the day together. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated teachers for creating engaging stations and to our wonderful parent volunteers who helped make the day run so smoothly.

Beach Day
Beach Day is on Thursday, June 18. We are heading to Fish Boat Bay Beach, and buses will be leaving at 9am. Permission slips went home today. Please ensure that they are returned to your child’s teacher by Tuesday, June 16. Thanks so much for your help.

Summer Reading Club
Vancouver Island Regional Library is once again offering the popular Summer Reading Club program to encourage students to keep reading over the summer. We invite children to embark on a reading adventure at the library by participating in this year’s BC Summer Reading Club: Under the Sea. Each summer, Vancouver Island Regional Library (VIRL) offers a free Summer Reading Club to help children stay on top of the important skill of reading while they are out of school. As you know, regular reading over the summer helps kids to maintain or improve reading skills, and voluntary reading is key to making reading habitual.

Summer Reading Club motivates kids to read by providing:
• Materials so kids can track their reading success: prizes, reading records, trading cards, and stickers.
• Medals for all children who complete a reading record.
• Amazing virtual and in branch library programs, performances, contests, and activities.

Summer Reading Club officially starts on July 2nd. Families can register by picking up a special package at their local branch starting on June 16th. The package includes a reading record to track reading, stickers, and other fun items.
