Friday Newsletter – November 14

Dear Families,
During our Remembrance Day assembly, students gathered to honour and remember the sacrifices made by our veterans for our freedom and peace. The ceremony included a heartfelt song performed by our K and K/1 classes, a tribute to Ingenious Veterans, a moving reading of the poem “In Flanders Fields, and a video explaining the significance of Remembrance Day. We also shared a special tribute video dedicated to students’ family members who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces. This important day provided our school community with an opportunity to pause, reflect, and express our deep gratitude for the contributions of our veterans, who helped shape the peaceful Canada we enjoy today. Thank you to Ms. Cook, Ms Merx, and Ms. Wu for organizing the assembly.
Celebration of Learning:
Next Thursday, November 20 is our Celebration of Learning event. On this afternoon/evening, your child/ren will take you on a tour through the incredible discoveries and achievements they’ve made this term. Classrooms will be open from 11:45am-12:45pm, 2pm-4pm, and 5pm-6pm. We look forward to welcoming families! As a reminder, students will be dismissed early on Thursday at 11:33am.
Dressing for the Weather
At John Muir, students go outside in all kinds of weather. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately for the conditions. We also recommend sending along a couple of extra changes of clothes in case they are needed. Thanks for your support!
End of Day Pick Up
Just a reminder to families that there is no supervision on the playground at the end of day. Supervising you child at the end of the day is so important in order to help your children navigate social interactions as needed. Thanks for your support.
Book Fair
Our Scholastic Book Fair starts on Tuesday and goes until Thursday at the end of learning tours. If you can, please volunteer to help make this event successful! There are only a few spots left that need some help! Thank-you so much to those people who have signed up already!
Art Card PAC Fundraiser
Today, teachers will be sending home artwork for the Art Card PAC Fundraiser. Please follow the directions on the back of the card and return the artwork to your child’s classroom teacher by November 19. If your child has been absent, and you would still like them to participate in creating artwork, please let your child’s classroom teacher know, and they will send the template home for your child to complete.

The Parent Page – This is where parents login to provide and/or review consents for their children.

  • When using the system for the first time, parents must use the front page to request an access number (which acts as their password).
  • Parents use the verification number to gain entry. From there, they can provide consent to the six activities. If your student is not listed, please make sure that the email address used is the same email address your students school has on file.
  • This is meant to be a one-stop shop for parents to provide consent.

The URL for this page is https://consent.sd62.bc.ca

Here are the consents that are available as this time to be collected online:

  1. Media Consent
  2. Internet Access Consent
  3. General Consent for School Fieldtrips/Activities (Short walking trips)
  4. School Cash Online Consent
  5. Fresh Grade Consent
  6. Google Apps For Education Consent-Grades 4 and 5 only
  7. Aboriginal Education Information and Self-Identification

When do the Consents expire?

  • Some consents (namely GAFE, KEV, and Fresh Grade) expire once a student leaves the district and/or graduates
  • Some consents last one school year
  • The system tracks the expiry of these consents. To renew a consent year to year (for Internet access, as an example) a parent simply reconnects to the system next school year. The system will note that the consent has expired and will give parents an opportunity to renew their permission.

How do you sign up for these consents?

Step 1 – Add registration@sd62.bc.ca to your email contacts

Step 2 – Parents go to the link https://consent.sd62.bc.ca

Step 3 – Add your email address

Step 4 – Go to junk folder as the verification number may be sent to this folder. Make note of your SD62 email verification number

Step 5 – Add the verification number Step 6 – Click on the Consents and choose, “I do give consent”.
